Nigel Owens visits South Caernarfon Creameries

Recently, we had a very special guest visit us, world renowned rugby referee Nigel Owens to launch our new competition to win a year’s family supply of our Dragon Handcrafted range.

Since retiring as a rugby referee in December 2020, Nigel can be found on his farm near Pontyberem with his herd of Hereford cows. He is an avid supporter of the agricultural industry and is now supporting Welsh dairy farmers.

Nigel first visited the home of one of our farmer members, Siôn Hughes, near Criccieth, to see first-hand where the milk comes from. Nigel learnt how our co-operative supports local farmers in Wales and how all the milk we use comes from our members throughout Wales. Nigel was impressed to see how the creamery is an integral part of the community, keeping jobs in Wales.

Nigel was then given a full tour of the factory by our Head of Operations, Mark Edwards, and shown how our premium range cheese is made, from start to finish, with of course tasting sessions on the way.

The final port of call was the Llanfair Slate Caverns near Harlech to see where the Dragon Handcrafted range cheese is matured over a number of months to produce its unique taste and texture. Nigel went deep underground and saw our cavern aged cheeses maturing nicely.
